“Pirunu Kusak Pirunu Hisak: Now On the Path to ‘Pirunu Nethak'”
The “Pirunu Kusak Pirunu Hisak” initiative is taking its next transformative step with the upcoming “Pirunu Nethak” eye camp at Muriyakadawala Primary School on the 9th and 10th of March. This program, coordinated by Mr. Chulananda, aims to provide comprehensive eye screening and examinations to approximately 100 students from a number of schools, with the goal of offering prescription glasses and ensuring long-term eye health.
The initiative was linked to the team by Dr. Asela Abeydeera, a community ophthalmologist from CMC. A dedicated team of volunteer German pediatric ophthalmologists will conduct detailed eye examinations. The screening process involves the use of the Snellen chart to assess visual acuity, focusing on students who were previously identified during school medical examinations as needing eye care.
A unique aspect of this project is the provision of long-term lens replacements, supporting students’ vision needs all the way up to Grade 13. This initiative is not just about immediate corrective measures but about creating lasting change by empowering students with clear vision and better educational opportunities.
School coordination is led by Ms Manori, the SFP teacher, ensuring smooth logistics and active participation. The “Pirunu Nethak” program exemplifies a strong commitment to community well-being and educational enhancement, marking a significant milestone in the journey from “Pirunu Kusak Pirunu Hisak” to “Pirunu Nethak.”
