A Simple Act of Kindness Bridges the Holiday Hunger Gap

When the school bell rings for the holidays, signalling a time of joy and relaxation for many, it brings a different reality for some children who rely on school meals. While most students eagerly anticipate the break, others face it with apprehension. Why? Because for them, the end of school also means the end of regular, nutritious meals provided by the school food program.

For many children, the government’s initiative ensures two vital meals a day. Even in schools where this program isn’t available, students often receive at least one daily meal through dedicated efforts. So, the question lingers: what happens when these schools close for an extended month-long holiday?

This very concern weighed heavily on the heart of one of our incredible donors who supports a particular school. They pondered, “How will these children manage for food during the break?” This simple question sparked a powerful act of kindness. The donor proposed sending a supply of dry rations that would hopefully last the children through the month, or at the very least, provide sustenance for the initial critical days.

Moved by this compassion, the donor reached out and asked for a list of ten students who would be most vulnerable during the school closure. Thanks to their selfless generosity, we were able to promptly assemble and deliver these essential food packages to the school.

Being part of a program where donors, even those residing far across the globe, demonstrate such profound care for the well-being of the children they support is truly inspiring. It reinforces the core values of our initiative, “Pirunu Kusak Pirunu Hisak” reminding us that nourishment is fundamental to a child’s overall development.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the following individuals whose actions made this holiday support possible:

 * Gemina and Yasas, our dedicated supporters whose unwavering concern for the children’s nutritional needs during the holidays led to this initiative. Their persistent and caring inquiries truly made a difference.

 * The Principal, whose selfless commitment went above and beyond. Without hesitation, they took time out on their day off and used their own resources to travel to town and collect the food packages, ensuring they reached the children in need.

 * The Owner of Seedevi Store, who, motivated purely by a desire to help, offered the maximum possible discount on the supplies, significantly contributing to the number of children we could reach.

Their collective efforts embody the spirit of compassion and highlight the significant impact a simple act of kindness can have in bridging the holiday hunger gap for vulnerable children.
